A website is the face of a company; it is often the first thing a consumer sees and the most efficient way for them to learn about what your company has to offer. This means that your company’s website must be easy to read, simple to navigate and provide your audience with up-to-date, relevant content that they can use regularly. You want consumers to feel empowered and educated after reading your website as this is the only way for them to take action after learning more about your company.
It isn’t enough to have a great website; you must have a responsive website. This means it provides your audience with the opportunity to view your content no matter where they are or how they are viewing it. Consumers today are on-the-go; your website needs to accommodate that need – being easily viewable not just from their desktop, but also from their laptop, tablet, and smart phone.
That being said, a responsive website is not to be confused with a mobile version of your website. Some website designers will create an entirely separate website to reach mobile phone users. This site will run parallel to your “main” site, which creates more work for your content manager. Responsive website design eliminates the need for a separate mobile site. Instead, a responsive website design takes the same content, design, images and adjusts them for different devices. It’s a lot like viewing your desktop page in the smallest size possible. Your audience is able to zoom in on the content they want to see and scroll through your page just as easily from their smart phone as they could their laptop.
Not everyone has the luxury of a desktop or laptop computer. For some, a mobile phone is the only means they have to access the internet. In fact, 45% of Americans use their phones to access the Internet while 17% rely on their phones as their only Internet access. It would be a shame to lose an entire group of people just because they can’t view your content easily. Make sure you are reaching that audience with accessible content.
If your company already has a website, you do not have to start all over from the beginning; work with a website designer to alter the user interface and update the CSS. This can be accomplished in just a matter of days. If you haven’t developed your website yet, it is best to make it responsive from the beginning.
