The Honest Comparison

Housecall Pro WebsitesversusStuart McHenry Websites

The Housecall Pro Website Builder is a field service platform bolted onto a website. Pricing isn't published, it's stapled to a $59 to $329 a month software subscription, and it's built to feed their booking widget, not to rank on Google. I'm a website designer for the trades — plumbing web design, HVAC web design, roofing web design, electrician web design — and this is what you get for $79 a month when you hire me directly.

The short version

Housecall Pro sells software with a website bolted on. I sell a website.

Housecall Pro is genuinely good field service software. Scheduling, dispatch, invoicing, payments, all of that is their bread and butter. The website they offer is a feature meant to feed their booking widget. It exists so their platform has an obvious front door, not because it's the sharpest SEO tool on the market.

A few practical problems come with that. Their website pricing is quote-only, so you can't compare and shop. You can't buy the website without also paying for the core software, which stacks $59 to $329 a month on top before the website line item shows up. The site itself lives inside their platform, so if you ever leave, the website goes with them.

What I'm doing is different. It's a real custom home service website with on-page SEO built into every page, tuned for how contractors actually get found. Homepage, about, contact, privacy, accessibility, up to 12 service pages, and up to 10 location pages. All in for $79 a month. No software subscription required. No sales call to find out the price. To keep the price this low the site stays on my end while you're on the monthly plan, but if you ever want it outright there's a buyout option. Just contact me and we'll work out a fair one-time number. If you already use Housecall Pro for scheduling, keep it and we embed the booking widget. Best of both worlds.

A little history

This is Housecall Pro's second swing at websites

Before we get into what Housecall Pro offers today, it's worth knowing what they used to offer, because it changes how you should read the current product. This is round two for them, not round one.

The original Housecall Pro Website Builder was a self-service tool. You logged into the platform, worked through a template, and had a site up in under ten minutes. It was pitched as free for the first year and thousands of contractors used it. For a small operator who just needed a phone number and a booking button online, it did the job.

Then Housecall Pro pulled the plug. Their own help center says it plainly now: they are no longer offering new subscriptions to the legacy Website Builder. Existing sites still work for the moment, but new customers can't touch it. The self-service builder is done.

What replaced it is a completely different animal. The new product is called "Websites by Housecall Pro" and it's a done-for-you service, not a builder. You fill out a questionnaire, their team builds the site, and the pricing is quote-only across 1-page, 5-page, and 15-page tiers on top of the required $59 to $329 a month software subscription. Same brand, totally different model.

Why does that matter to you? A few reasons. First, if you're comparing today's offer to what you remember or what a buddy told you, you're comparing two different products. Second, the fact that they killed the original builder tells you where their priority is, and it isn't the website. It's the software subscription. The website is the front door that funnels people into scheduling, dispatch, and payments. That's a fine business model, it's just not the same thing as hiring somebody whose whole job is your website ranking on Google.

My $79 a month offer is the opposite trade-off. I don't sell field service software. I sell websites for contractors, on purpose, only for contractors. That's the entire product. No platform to feed, no upsell path to protect. If Housecall Pro someday launches version three of their website offer, that's fine, mine will still be $79 a month and still built for the trades.

06

Why $79 works

The same build I used to sell for $3,500 up front

A few years ago this exact website structure would have been a $2,000 to $3,500 one-time project. Same page count, same SEO foundation, same conversion focus. Two things changed to make $79 a month possible.

One customer, one playbook

This is productized for the home service business owner. Roofer, plumber, HVAC, electrician, pest, garage door. The page structure and SEO framework don't get reinvented every project. That focus is where the savings come from, not from cutting quality.

Subscription math instead of one-time math

Instead of collecting the full build cost in month one, we spread it across the life of the account. That only works if I keep clients happy for years. My incentives and your incentives line up on purpose.

Built for the trades

This isn't a generic small-business website. It's built for the trades. Only the trades.

I don't do sites for dentists, boutique shops, life coaches, or law firms. Every hour I've spent on this has gone into one thing: figuring out how homeowners actually search for contractors and how Google decides which local trade shows up first. That focus is the whole reason I can hand you a real 27-page SEO-first website for $79 a month and still sleep at night.

Home service is a completely different beast from every other kind of small business site. The buyer is stressed, sometimes in an emergency, comparing three companies in ten minutes, checking reviews mid-scroll, and calling whoever looks the most trustworthy first. Service pages need to answer real questions. Location pages need to prove you actually work in that city. Trust bars, license and insurance callouts, response-time promises, financing, and after-hours phone handling all matter. Generic website builders don't know any of that.

One lane. Deep.

The honest disclaimer

Not in the trades? This offer isn't for you.

I'd rather turn away a project than build something outside my lane. If you're a restaurant, a chiropractor, a SaaS company, or an e-commerce shop, there are great people who focus on your world. This $79 a month site is only tuned for home service. If your business is on the trade list above (or something adjacent like drain, septic, appliance, chimney, tree service, fencing, painting, or pressure washing), we're a fit and we should talk.

Web design for the trades

One website designer. Every home service trade.

If you searched plumbing web design, HVAC web design, roofing web design, electrician web design, or website designer for contractors and landed here, you're in the right spot. Same $79 a month flat, same SEO-first build, tuned page-by-page for the trade you actually work in.

Same offer whether you call it web design, website design, a website builder, or hiring a website designer. The Housecall Pro Website Builder locks you into their platform. My $79/mo plan is a real custom home service website that ranks, converts, and doesn't require a software subscription to keep it online.

What's baked in

SEO and CRO aren't upsells. They are the product.

On-page SEO on every page

Every page targets a keyword and city. Titles, headings, schema, internal links, and content structure are handled the way Google actually rewards home service sites.

Conversion rate optimization

Phone number where it belongs. Sticky CTA on mobile. Trust bar with license, insurance, and reviews. Forms that don't ask for a novel. The goal is booked jobs, not pretty pixels.

Home service specific

Service page structure, location page structure, review integration, and FAQ patterns all tuned for the trades. This isn't a generic template with your logo on it.

Real page structure

Homepage, about, contact, privacy, accessibility, up to 12 service pages, up to 10 location pages. That's a serious 27-page site if you use every slot.

Buyout option any time

The site stays with me on the $79 monthly plan, but if you ever want it outright, there's a one-time buyout. Contact me for the number. Housecall Pro doesn't offer that at all.

Locked design after approval

Up to 3 revisions on the homepage design. Once approved, the design is locked so we can build and launch fast. Endless redesign is how projects die.
